They're frequent problems.
Everything will work out
You probably made one of the following errors:
1 - downloaded files with errors
2 - copied files with errors to the HDD
3- didn't disconnect the power cord from the receiver
It makes no difference which version is being updated.
If everything is done correctly, then everything will work out.

Thanks Illia and Nester! You were spot on here, I didn't unplug the device from the vehicle as I put the updated HDD back in. So that's apparently a key step as well. I didn't remove the device as the radio etc. work just fine without the hard disk.
Anyway, I'm all good now and everything is fine and dandy. Cheers from your neighbor!
